How brilliant to finally try a style of lighting that I’d always wanted to dabble with; classic hollywood lighting / film noir.  Taking just the first photo here as an example of the advanced light setup – it has the back lighting (using both ambient and gridded strobes), the warm colouring and moody contrast, and a slither of light (barn door lighting) creeping across Anya’s face.

Of course the overall look and settings had to be right, and for that reason I’m extremely grateful to Rebecca Cardenas (who created the perfect ‘hollywood’ makeup and hair look), to our brilliant model Anya, and to Oxo Bar in Oxford.
